Tangled, it is Snoop's turn
Names after his stepfather, Calvin Cordozar Broadus was born on October 20 1971. A child of talents inherited from his Vietnam veteran singer, Snoopy, as he was nicknamed by his parents, took on rapping when he was just a sixth grader. But as a teenager he frequently collided with law and ended up facing a six-month imprisonment for cocaine trafficking.
After he started recording he took the name Snoop Doggy Dogg. He earned quite a good name with the theme song of the film Deep Cover, The Chronic, The Dogg Pound etc. But his childhood habit of getting involved in legal suits did not spare him. While he was recording for his debut album Doggystyle, he and his bodyguard McKinley Lee was accused of murdering years old Philip Woldemariam, a member of a rival gang. Both Lee and Snoop were convicted when a witness clarified that she had seen Woldermariam move away from the jeep, which was driven by Snoop, from where he was shot and killed by Lee in 1993.
Johnnie Cochran defended Snoop and Lee and both were acquitted on the grounds murder in self-defense. However, Snoop never gave up entangling himself with law. It is difficult to say, that people should remember his foot tapping rapping numbers of the countless criminal charges that are registered in his name. In 1993 itself when he was stopped for traffic violation, the cops recovered a firearm from his car for which he was fined with $1,000 and served three years of probation. In 1998, he was caught possessing marijuana, fined and received a suspended 30 days imprisonment. In 2005, he was accused of assaulting a fan at White River Amphitheater, Auburn, Washington. In 2006, he and his members where accused of vandalizing the Heathrow airport when some members of his team were escorted out of the first class lounge as they did not have the tickets for the first class. He has now and again arrested and fines for the possession of marijuana and illegal firearms. The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship even banned his entry into the country because of this earlier criminal record that was lifted in 2008.
In spite of a long chain of legal trails following him, he never stopped singing. The Doggystyle saw a huge success might be mostly due to the murder trail that was going on during that time. Snoopy Dogg’s “West Cost G- Funk” and “Who I am” where two of the most played songs in USA. His second album Doggfather was also a great success. In 2011, his latest album is the Doggumentary that was released earlier this year. He can also be seen in Gorillaz’ latest album called plastic beach in a song called "Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach". He completed another song called “Sumthing Like this Night" with The Hypnotic Brass and also appeared on the latest TechN9ne album All6’s And 7’s along with E-40 and Krizz Kaliko. Quite an eventful year it has been for Snoopy Dogg. What he is up to next? Who knows?
